Annotations for each page
Page 1) A man named Muse is talking about a time that he was in Troy and saw the destruction that their own ways brought upon them. He is also saying how he could not save them all. This could be important because in this it shows how the hero failed to save all the people.
Page 2) There is one man Calypso who is being held back by the bewitching nymph while his heart is set on returning to his wife in Ithaca. All the gods took pity except for Poseidon and he raged and then went to Ethiopians to receive offerings. This is important because you get the sense of what is going on and you learn that Poseidon is raged so you can guess that he might act out o rage.
Page 4) It says that the Cyclops will not kill Odysseus but simply drive him off course and then he trusts that Poseidon will let his anger out. Athena vowed that she would go and spread the word and set Odysseus' son on a journey to Sparta to find out about his fathers journey home.
Page 5) Prince Telemachus was one of the first people to see Athena and instantly started to daydream about his fathers return. He then brought her into the palace and treated her as royalty. This is important because we can see that Prince Telemachus knows what is going on.
Page 6) Then they started to have a feast and he says to the stranger in a low voice so no one else can hear that if a man whose white bones lie in the rain somewhere or in the ocean that if they see him then they would wish that they are fast enough to get away instead of being rich. This is important because we learn that the people are scared and fear Odysseus.
Page 7) Prince Telemachus finishes his story and then wants to know about this strange so he asks a lot of questions. She then says that her name is Mentes and that she is old friends with you father and then continues to say that Odysseus is not dead. This is important because now the son knows his father is still alive.
Page 8) Mentes is telling him that his father is being held captive somewhere in the world. Then she asks Telemachus to tell her about himself and if he is really the son of Odysseus and then she reassured him that the gods have not marked out your house for such an unsung future.
Page 9) Telemachus is saying how he wished his father would have went down in a battle or died besides his loved ones instead of just disappearing. This is important because a lot of people forgot about him so when he returns it might be different then what it was before.
Page 10) Mentes tells Telemachus to take a ship and to go and search for his new long lost father. This is important because it might begin his journey looking for his father c.
Page 11) Mentes tells Telemachus that if he learns his father is dead to grow up and become an honorable king and kill these suitors that are in your house. Mentes also tells Telemachus that she has to go. This is important because this would push him to become a better king.
Page 12) As Athena left Telemachus know that this was a god and knew what he had to do. Then he went to his mother and how she will never forget her husband and he is alive in her memories always.
Page 13) Telemachus told his mother to go back to her quarters and do your own tasks and he said as for giving orders men will do that and he will hold the reins of power in this house. This is important because he is taking the leadership and becoming a good leader.
Page 14) Telemachus is speaking to all the suitors with so much daring that Eupithes' son Antinous broke the silence saying that only the gods can teach you o speak like that. They were saying that your fathers crown is not yours by birth. Then they asked Telemachus about his guest that he recently had and the page leaves us at that.
Page 15) Telemachus is saying that he no longer believes in the rumors of his fathers journey home saying that he believes his father is dead. This is important because he is saying that he will not go looking for his father.
Book one
They start off by saying that Odysseus is alive and the god Poseidon is still mad and holding him captive. Then Mentes (the goddess Athena) tells Telemachus (Odysseus' son) that there is a possibility that your father Odysseus could still be alive. Then Telemachus takes control of his household and says that he no longer believes the rumors of his fathers return.
