In relation to our brief discussion of "catharsis" how does this relate to Gilgamesh's realization of his own mortality.
Our discussion of catharsis relates to Gilgamesh's realization of his own mortality because Gilgamesh is very upset about the death of his close friend Enkidu. Gilgamesh then starts to cry but then realizes something. He realizes that he is still mortal. Gilgamesh is approaching catharsis when he is releasing his inner feelings about Enkidu's death.
What prompts Gilgamesh to Confront his own mortality?
The event that prompts Gilgamesh to confront his own mortality is the death of Enkidu. The loss of Enkidu was like loosing a brother. Gilgamesh never formed a relationship like what he did with Enkidu with anyone else so this is the first time he has felt pain like this. Now that he realizes that he is not a god and that one day he will die he is also frightened about death. He then goes on a journey to find the one that survived the flood to learn the secrets of life and death hoping that he will learn the secrets to being immortal.
