What about Ancient Greek culture & values is reflected in their beliefs towards the underworld?
The values that are reflected in there beliefs towards the underworld in the Ancient Greeks culture is that they believed all souls end up in the same place after you die. Regardless what you do they all end up in the Underworld.
Do you recognize any similarities between the Greek's beliefs towards death and the underworld and those which are held in your own religion?
There are some similarities between my own religion and the Greeks beliefs. In both the Greek beliefs and in my religion your soul goes somewhere after you die. In the Greek culture you go through an elaborate process to get to the underworld and in my religion you go to heaven or if you were a good person and if you didn't follow God's rules then u go to hell.
The Journey of the soul is described to be an elaborate process, why do you think that is? Why can't it be more simple?
I think The Journey of the soul is an elaborate process because the soul is going into a new realm and the soul got to be prepared. This process also makes sure that the soul is ready to enter the underworld. It cant be a more simple process because the soul has to be prepared to enter the underworld and this is a big step because entering a new realm is a big change and this helps the soul be ready.
Looking back (to The Epic of Gilgamesh) this will be the 2nd text in which the protagonist journey to the underworld to confront death, why do you the hero "needs" to visit the underworld?
There is always a time in a story when it seems like all hope is lost. Then the hero realizes that he cant give up and he then does something totally crazy and brave. In these two stories it so happens to be the hero going to the underworld when all hope is lost and this is their motivation that they can become triumphant and they realize that they cant give up.
